After our Kilimanjaro climb, we went on a four-day safari in three game parks in Tanzania: Lake Manyara,  Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire National Park. This portion of the trip was run by Hoopoe Safaris.

Three of the four nights on safari we stayed at "tented camps." These semi-permanent camps (Kirurumu  Tented Lodge and Tamarind Camp) are more like luxury out-door hotels than camping. We also spent one night at Kifaru Lodge. The food and service were very nice for the entire safari portion of the trip.

Rick compiled the list below of all of the birds and mammals that we saw on our Tanzania trip. In the table, the "Location" column represents where the first sighting was recorded. The Location Codes are: M, Lake Manyara; Ng, Ngorongoro Crater or Rim; T, Tarangire National Park; Kili, on Mt. Kilimanjaro. In addition to the birds listed below, we saw many others that were never definitively identified. The bird names were mostly taken from the Collins Field Guide "Birds of East Africa," by John G. Williams and Norman Arlott (1963). Names of the mammals were mostly from "The Safari Companion," by Richard D. Estes (1993).
